Are Conservatives and Liberals Welcome?
A friend recently gave me feedback about our newly launched websites “that if I didn’t know your intent I would assume from the language that it was meant to be a progressive religious space and not so much for conservatives or more traditional religious people.” This feedback is very important since everything was drafted with the purpose of NOT excluding anyone based on their politics, theology, or religion.
The labels of Republican, Independent, Democrat, Forward Party, even “No Labels,” along with conservative, moderate, and liberal don’t (and shouldn’t) determine whether a person is kind, good, moral, right or absolutely in (or out) of the favor of the Divine. Even how one labels their understanding of faith, religion or spirituality doesn’t conclusively determine their goodness or morality. You don’t have to look far to find saintly atheists and corrupt Christians. I’m confident that there are Republicans and conservative Christians who know that gay and transgender people are just as good, moral, capable and bound-for-Heaven as anyone else. I’m similarly confident that there are Democrats who believe that “man is the head of the household” and life starts at conception. The political, religious, and theological labels are insufficient.
There are millions of people all around the world who do not have any well trained, educated or sagely person to ask their spiritual or life questions. And, at the very same time, there are many, many well trained, educated, expert, wise, non-proselytizing spiritual leaders who cannot find people to serve. These are the two main groups (people without a faith leader and faith leaders without people!) that may be least engaged, least connected, least able to locate one another, and most available for mutual benefit.
What most of us see in the world are the faith communities in buildings and the faith leaders who are leading those people. Let’s call them congregations and pastors even though the terms don’t fit for every tradition or religion. They are all welcome inside Be Kind Humans as well!
In conclusion, you will not be expelled from Be Kind Humans by identifying as a particular political party or theology, so long as the behavior and proclaimed values remain obviously supportive of the Be Kind Humans Universe by being safe, kind and inclusive.
